The classic two volume reference source, Apples of New York (1905), by Spencer Ambrose Beach of the New York Agricultural Experiment Station, is now available online from Cornell's Core Historical Literature of Agriculture. http://chla.library.cornell.edu/c/chla/ ... 19829.html

Unfortunately, although the photo-images of the text are clean and very readable, the illustrations are reproduced in black and white. Fortunately color images from both volumes are available from a Penn State site, except the project seemed to have run out of steam and few images for apples from S-Z in either "Volume I: Winter Apples" or "Volume II: Summer and Fall Apples" are available.
