Can integration protect against apple dumping?
Much has been written about the "dumping" of apples imported to the US from China, and the impact it has had on American orchards. Here's an intesting article from our apple friends in British Columbia, Canada regarding the impact they have felt from the bumper US apple crops in 2004. Read the complete story Additional information from All About Apples Canada imported 130,000 metric tons of apples during the 2004/2005 season, with a large proportion of those imports coming from the United States. The country consumed and estimated 302,000 metric tons meaning 43% of the apples consumed were not grown in the country. This compares to a 7% export-to-consumption ratio in the United States.
