Grafting results in predictable results

Apples, pears, other fruit trees and no telling how many ornamental plants can be propagated by seed, but the resultant plant or plants may resemble only one of the parents of the genetic cross (many seeds develop necessarily by cross-pollination) and some of the seedlings will not look like or perform like either of the parents. In lots of cases, the parent plants may both have had desirable traits, such as size of fruit or flower, fruit or flower color, yielding ability, time of bloom, etc., yet their seedling may not have inherited any of these desirable qualities.
