An apple label a day makes a great book (and exhibition)
"The Ultimate Apple Label Book" isn't just a catchy name. This new hard-bound coffeetable book features more than 1,000 shiny, delicious (looking, that is) apple labels -- many of which have never been published -- from the files of the Yakima Valley Museum and private collectors.
The book is written by museum director John Baule (with assistance from collectors Kelsey Doncaster and Delmar Bice, among others), and includes background on the box label in the Pacific Northwest fruit industry, a guide for beginning collectors, a CD-ROM and full-color illustrations of labels -- a lot of labels. It's published by Pennsylvania's Schiffer Publishing and hit the shelves of the museum's gift shop last week.
