Fall Pippin
Parentage / Origin:
Harvest / Season: Ripens over a long period early to late September
Description: Large, yellow fall apple. Good flavor and keeper. Flesh tender, rich and of very good quality. Excellent for eating but especially desirable for culinary use.
Tree Characteristics: Some disease resistance.

Fallawater
(Also known as: Tulpehocken, Mt. Pippin, Pound)
Parentage / Origin: Pennsylvania, mid 1800s
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: November - March
Description: Good sauce and culinary apple. Large, green fruit turning to light green upon ripening. Sometimes over 6 inches in diameter. Sub-acid to mildly sweet flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Good, regular bearer, subject to Cedar apple Rust Triploid

 
Fameuse

Fearns Pippin
Parentage / Origin: England 1780
Harvest / Season: Ripens early autumn.
Description: Brilliant scarlet color of the fruit. Crisp, juicy, acid and sweet with an almost lemon quality. Mellows in keeping to a slight raspberry flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Tree is medium size and upright in habit.

Fiesta
Parentage / Origin:

Description: 75% red over a green background with a sweet, tangy and refreshing flavor.

Fireside
Parentage / Origin: McIntosh x Longfield; 1943.00
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October; Season: October - January
Description: Large conical fruit. Green skin with scarlet stripes and sometimes a mottled orange flush. Crisp, sweet, juicy greenish white to yellow flesh. Excellent eating apple.
Tree Characteristics: Good keeper. Resistant to cedar apple rust. Tree is vigorous and hardy.

Description: Flesh is fine textured and very sweet. Good russet resistance. Sizes easily to 3" and hangs well on the tree.
Tree Characteristics: Semi-vigorous growth and tends to be biennial if not thinned properly.

Florina (Querina cv.)
Parentage / Origin: 612-1 x Jonathan; INRA Beaucouze, France
Harvest / Season: Harvest: With Golden Delicious
Description: Medium to large. Very attractive purple-red over yellow. Medium firm. Aromatic. Keeps well.
Tree Characteristics: Medium to strong vigor. Vf scab resistance, fireblight tolerant, mildew susceptible. Precocious. Terminal bearer.

Fortune
(Also known as: NY529)
Parentage / Origin: Empire x Schoharie Spy
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October
Description: Very good "spicy" fresh eating quality. Fruit large, with an attractive color. Flesh yellow. Subject to bitter pit.
Tree Characteristics: Tree dense foliage, very vigorous. Biennial.

Description: Dusky red skin, flesh is considered bitter sharp. Strictly for cider.

Franklin
Parentage / Origin: Delicious x McIntosh; Introduced by the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late September; Season: October
Description: Well-colored fruit. Tender, crisp flesh, mild flavor. Resembles shape of Delicious, but far superior in eating quality.

Frauen Rotacher
(Also known as: Franc Roseau)
Parentage / Origin: Switzerland, before 1850
Harvest / Season:
Description: Medium sized fruit with greenish-yellow skin flushed and striped with red and with russet dots. Flesh is firm, crisp, white and fine-textured with a sweet subacid flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Spreading shape.

Freedom
Parentage / Origin: Macoun x Antonovka; 1983, New York
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late September/early October, Season: October - November
Description: Good multi-use apple. Medium to large red fruit on almost invisible yellow skin. Crisp, juicy, sweet, good-tasting flesh. Subacid, sprightly flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Tree is resistant to major apple tree diseases.

Freyburg
Parentage / Origin: Cox Orange Pippin x Golden Delicious; New Zealand
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early October
Description: Yellow green with some russeting. Juicy, aromatic, creamy white flesh with firm fine texture. The flavor is a combination of apple, pear, and banana. Has a touch of anise and liquorice. Lightly acidulous and sugary.

Fuji
Parentage / Origin: Ralls Janet x Delicious; Japan 1962

Harvest / Season: Harvest: Late October; Season: October - January
Description: Tall, rectangular, medium size fruit. Yellowish green skin with an orangish red flush and darker stripes. Darker blush on sun side. Crisp, juicy slightly subacid white flesh with outstanding texture.   May require up to 200 days to mature. Good keeper.
Tree Characteristics: Vigorous, productive, somewhat bushy tree. Needs annual detailed pruning.
