Hokuto

Description: Fruit is large, round in shape with red stripes on a yellowish background. Pale yellow flesh with high sugar and excellent flavor.

Parentage / Origin: Jonathan and Macoun (McIntosh x Jersey Black; Introduced by the Ohio Station
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late season
Description: High quality fine flavored eating apple recently. It has inherited the good eating qualities of it's parents with the rich flavor of Jonathan and the white juicy flesh of Macoun. Shiny bright red over yellow skin with a prominent dotting.

Parentage / Origin: Jonathan x Delicious; Ohio Agricultural Research Center, introduced in 1970
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early to mid- October
Description: Large outstandingly beautiful apple has the color of the holly berry. Its shape is conic, sometimes having a blockish appearance. The glossy skin is evenly blushed with pinkish to deep, solid red. The creamy white flesh is mild in flavor, juicy and quite sweet, similar to Delicious. It keeps well until January. Fruit hangs well on the tree.
Tree Characteristics: Tree spreading and moderately vigorous.

Parentage / Origin: Open pollinated seedling of Cox's Orange Pippin; Germany, 1918
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late September - October, Season: September - February, improves with storage.
Description: Shape round conical. Flat base, slightly lop sided. Yellow fruit with blush of reddish-orange, sometimes lightly russeted. Firm, juicy creamy yellow flesh. Aromatic flavor of Cox's Orange, but easier to grow.
Tree Characteristics: Tree is more vigorous, scab resistant but prone to frost damage. Triploid

Honeygold

Honeygold
Parentage / Origin: Golden Delicious x Haralson; Raised 1935, University of Minnesota Horticulture Research Center. Introduced in 1969
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late October; Season: October - December
Description: Hardy substitute for Golden Delicious developed especially for cold northern areas. Golden Delicious flavor, Haralson hardiness. Medium to large golden to greenish fruit with very smooth finish and reddish bronze blush. Flavor is sweeter and more bland than Golden Delicious. High quality. Superior storage qualities.
Tree Characteristics: Moderately vigorous tree. Crop is good. Susceptible to fire blight. Hardy to -50 degrees with occasional winter injury.

Hoople's Antique Gold

Description: Stripes against a yellow background, sometimes russeted, medium to large size with russeting. Rich, lightly aromatic flavor, juicy sweet flesh with excellent flavor.

Description: Culinary apple. Silvery-green to pale yellow fruit, brown-red or pink flushing, red stripes. Acid, fairly soft flesh. Cooks well, does not break up completely.

Horse
Parentage / Origin: Missouri, 1872
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early August.
Description: It is greenish yellow in color usually with a pink blush. The fruit is medium to large. It is very tart until fully. Flesh white stained red, firm, moderately fine, a little tough, sprightly, subacid, aromatic.

Howgate Wonder
Parentage / Origin: Blenheim Orange x Newton Wonder; Isle of Wight, 1915. Introduced in 1932
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early October, Season: November - March
Description: Large, late culinary apple. Yellowish-green fruit 1/4 to 3/4 flushed with brownish red and striped which changes to orange red. Firm, fine-textured flesh.
Tree Characteristics: vigorous tree is a heavy and regular cropper.

Hubbardston Nonesuch
Parentage / Origin: Massachusetts, pre-1832 origin
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: October - December
Description: Large, rugged fruit with red skin, highlight of gold. Flesh hard, crisp yet fine-grained. Sprightly and rich flavor, becoming sweeter when fully ripe.
Tree Characteristics: Tree is a regular and abundant producer of evenly sized fruit.

Hudson's Golden Gem
Parentage / Origin: Unknown seedling; Oregon 1931
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: October - January
Description: Excellent eating apple. Large conical and elongated fruit. Dull yellow russet skin. Crisp, sugary flesh with nutty flavor.
Tree Characteristics: vigorous tree. Disease resistant.

Hunt Russet
Parentage / Origin: Massachusetts
Harvest / Season: Ripens late
Description: Fruit medium sized, golden russet with broken patches of smooth bright red on the cheek. It is quite attractive for a russet apple, excellent in quality and a good keeper. Known to keep in root cellars over a year.
Tree Characteristics: Tree moderately vigorous and productive.

Hyslop Crab
(Also known as: Hyslop)
Parentage / Origin: 1869.00
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October.
Description: Good for jelly and cider. Large, 2+ inch, brilliant red or purple fruit with blue bloom. Firm yellow flesh is juicy when first ripe then rapidly becomes mealy. Subacid and astringent flavor.
