Lady
(Also known as: Pome d' Api, Christmas Apple)
Parentage / Origin: France, 1628
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early November, Season: November - March
Description: Creamy yellow and crimson. Flesh white, crisp and juicy. Highly aromatic. Also used in making Christmas wreaths and garlands.
Tree Characteristics: Small tree bears heavily. Recommended for home garden.

Lady Sudeley
(Also known as: Jacob's Strawberry)
Parentage / Origin: Raised in England in 1849
Harvest / Season: Harvest: August.
Description: Medium in size with prominent ribs on the body and at the eye, the bright yellow skin is flushed reddish orange and striped red. The yellow flesh is fine-grained, firm and crisp with a slightly subacid sweet flavor.
Tree Characteristics: This moderately vigorous, small compact tree is a tip bearer that is late flowering.

Lakeland
Parentage / Origin: Open pollinated seedling of Malinda
Harvest / Season: Harvest: late September
Description: Medium sized fruit dark red striped. Flesh is yellow sometimes slightly tinged with red. Fine textured, juicy, and mildly acid. Excellent for pies and sauce. Good all-purpose apple. Good keeper, keeping till December.
Tree Characteristics: Vigorous tree resistant to rust and fire blight.

Description: Small and intensely flavored with a hint of pineapple

Parentage / Origin: Essex County, New Jersey, early 19th century

Description: Medium in size and round to oblong in shape, the yellow skin has black dots, and the yellow flesh is coarse and dry

Laxton's Fortune
Parentage / Origin: Cox's Orange Pippin x Wealthy; England 1931
Harvest / Season:
Description: Medium size fruit with rich red flush or stripes over pale yellow with occasional russeting. Firm, juicy, creamy white flesh is sweet, richly flavored and lightly aromatic but needs to be left on the tree to fully ripen.
Tree Characteristics: Small, compact tree produces good crops but tends to be biennial. Scab resistant.

Laxton's Superb
Parentage / Origin: Wyken Pippin x Cox Orange Pippin; England 1897
Harvest / Season:
Description: Round conical medium to large fruit, greenish yellow mottled with a dull purplish-red. Flesh is white tinged green, fine textured but firm, tender and juicy.
Tree Characteristics: Vigorous, upright, spreading spur growth. Hardy in the North.

Leather Coat

Description: Medium, golden-yellow skin covered with russeting. Sweet-sharp intense flavor.
Tree Characteristics: vigorous tree.

Lemon Pippin
Parentage / Origin: English or Norman origin, prior to 1700
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early October, Season: October - Dec
Description: Good for drying. Small, yellow dotted fruit with greenish-white, crisp, acid flesh.
Tree Characteristics: Small upright tree suitable for the garden, good cropper.

Liberty
Parentage / Origin: Macoun x Purdue 54-12; New York, 1962
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: November - Feb
Description: MacIntosh type apple. Large, red blush covering nearly all of yellow fruit. Flavor develops over one month of storage.
Tree Characteristics: Very disease-resistant. Heavy fruit sets require thinning.

Limbertwig
Parentage / Origin: Probably North Carolina, described in 1832
Harvest / Season: Ripens late.
Description: Medium size and deep or dull red color. Flesh is yellowish, hard, aromatic.

Lindamac
Parentage / Origin: Sport of Redmax; Michigan, USA
Harvest / Season:
Description: One hundred percent red, otherwise same as McIntosh.
Tree Characteristics:

Lobo
Parentage / Origin: Open pollinated McIntosh; Canada, 1930.
Harvest / Season: Harvest: Early September
Description: Large, bright red. Crisp flesh. Tart. Cooks like McIntosh (foamy puree).
Tree Characteristics: Very hardy.

Lodi
Parentage / Origin: Montgomery x Transparent; New York, 1942.
Harvest / Season: Harvest: July - August, Season: 4 weeks from harvest
Description: Fruit is pale yellow flushed with deeper yellow. Flesh is crisp and juicy, flavor is sweet-tart. Ripens later than Transparent and keeps longer.
Tree Characteristics: Resistant to apple scab. Tendency to biennial bearing can be remedied by thinning. Dependable, productive trees.

Description: Medium-large yellow fruit. Sweet, juicy, rich flavor.

Tree Characteristics: Good for northern areas. Self-fertile but benefits from pollinators.

Description: White porcelain-like skin with splashes and blushes of bright pink and red. Firm, tart snow-white flesh. Brisk flavor.
