Description: Medium size. Attractive, juicy, crisp. Very good flavor. Mild to subacid with high sugar and aroma.

Moderately vigorous, spreading. Very Productive, annual, but somewhat slow to start bearing. Very hardy. Susceptible to rusts, tolerant to fireblight and mildew.

Description: Very round fruit, medium to very large, with handsomely striped to almost solid red, thick skin. A favorite for baking and drying, and outstanding as a baked apple. Inferior for eating due to dryish flesh and very mild, unremarkable flavor. A good keeper on and off the tree. Once a major commercial variety, now losing market share.

Roxbury Russet

Roxbury, Massachusetts, early 1600's

Description: Greenish-bronze and yellow fruit. The classic russet, like Golden Russet but even higher in sugar (12.87%), and a bigger producer. Possibly the oldest named variety in America.
