Saint Edmund's Pippin
(Also known as: Saint Edmund's Russet)
Parentage / Origin: England, 1870
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early September
Description: Flat uniform-sized apple covered with a smooth pale fawn- colored russet in our climate. Very juicy, crisp, yellowish flesh, great for cider as well as eating.
Tree Characteristics: Heavy annual cropper. Makes one of the best dwarf trees.

Sandow
Parentage / Origin: Seedling of Northern Spy; Ottawa, 1912. Introduced in 1935
Harvest / Season: Harvest: mid to end of October.
Description: Similarity to its parent Northern Spy. Creamy flesh color and long keeping quality, but it has a fuller flavor, is hardier, and redder and less troubled by scab. Bright scarlet stripes and flush. Sweet, juicy melting flesh; definite flavor of raspberries. Quality very high. Aromatic, juicy and crisp.

Parentage / Origin: Gala x Akane
Harvest / Season: Harvest: August
Description: Red, medium large. Sweet with acid. Resembles Gala flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Far out-produces Akane.

Scarlet Gala (Creech cv.)
Parentage / Origin: Sport of Gala
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early September.
Description: Unusually bright red color distinguishes it from other Galas. It is a medium sized apple. Oval to round in shape and slightly taller than other strains. Flesh is yellow, extremely firm, very juicy, and sweet and mildly aromatic.
Tree Characteristics: A vigorous grower with heavy and annual bearing habits. Early and adequate thinning help to attain size.

Scarlet O' Haralson (Sponsel cv.)
Parentage / Origin: Sport of Red Haralson; Minnesota
Harvest / Season: Harvest: Six days before Red Delicious
Description: Large, round. Very crisp with mild flavor. Brownish-red skin. Stores six months.
Tree Characteristics: Medium vigor. Spreading growth habit like Rome Beauty. Resistant to scab, but very susceptible to fireblight. Severe moldy core can be controlled with blossom-time sprays.

Scarlet O'Hara (Co op 25 cv.)
(Also known as: Co Op 25)
Parentage / Origin: PCF 2-134 x PRI 669-205 (or 669NJ5); PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois Co Op)
Harvest / Season: Harvest: mid-September
Description: Fruit is round-conic, full blushed red, sweet and juicy. Hangs extremely well to the tree and sugars increase greatly until early October.
Tree Characteristics: From the scab-resistant breeding program of Purdue, this is one of the highest quality and most productive varieties. It is susceptible to fire blight.

Scarlet Pippen
Parentage / Origin: Ontario, 1860
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October; Season: October - December
Description: Very attractive medium sized round dessert apple. White, firm, crisp, melting flesh. Juicy and mildly subacid with good flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Tree is a strong, upright grower, producing heavy crops.

Schmidtberger Reinette
Parentage / Origin: Austria, 1832
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: November - January
Description: Medium sized fruit is green, flushed and striped red. Sweet-sharp, aromatic flesh.
Tree Characteristics: vigorous tree.

Parentage / Origin: New England, 1700's.
Harvest / Season: Harvest: September-October, Season: November/December
Description: Creamy yellow fruit streaked red with some russeting. Crisp, tender, juicy and aromatic flesh with distinctive flavor. Not recommended for cooking.

Description: Color of fruit varies form pale pink to darker red with red stripes. Sometimes solid red in the sun. Crisp, breaking, juicy flesh. Very sweet fine mild flavor.

Senator
(Also known as: Oliver)
Parentage / Origin: Originated in Arkansas over a hundred years ago
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early October.
Description: A flattish round, medium size apple. Almost solid red over green background with prominent white or russet dots. Tender, crisp, juicy flesh. Most refreshing flavor.
Tree Characteristics: Crops very well every year.

Description: Blush. Approximates flavor of Fuji in spite of much shorter growing season.
