Description: Very sweet flavored yellow apple with pink-red blush on side of apple facing the sun. Flesh is crunchy with an interesting and quiet chew. Blocky, irregular-shaped apple. Lenticels are pronounced and dark, but sparse, giving the apple a speckled appearance.

Summer Rambo

Summer Rambo
(Also known as: Rambour Franc, Lorraine, Rombour d'ete. No relation to "Rambo")
Parentage / Origin: France, 1535
Harvest / Season: Harvest: September, Season: September - November
Description: Attractive, large, brightly striped, red fruit. Breaking, crisp, exceptionally juicy flesh. Subacid, aromatic flavor.
Tree Characteristics: vigorous tree bears heavily and early. Some disease resistance.

Summer Rose
Parentage / Origin: Northern Spy Seedling; New Jersey, 1806.
Harvest / Season: Harvest: September, Season: September - November
Description: Excellence both for eating and stewing. The size is moderate, the form flat, the skin smooth of a beautiful yellow resembling yellow wax, blended with red in streaks and blotches. The flesh is sweet, sprightly, and juicy.
Tree Characteristics: The tree is spreading in form, giving good exposure to the sun and is very fruitful.

Summer Treat
Parentage / Origin: Cross of Mollie's Delicious; New Jersey Experiment Station. Introduced in 1982
Harvest / Season:
Description: Fruits are large to very large, of angular, oblong-conic shape, with glossy skin blushed 70-100% brilliant red. The coarse, cream colored flesh is crisp, sweet, and good fresh from the tree when the fruitsare ripe. Fruits hang well, but lose quality quickly and become mealy if not harvested. Storage life is short.
Tree Characteristics: Scab susceptible.

Suncrisp (NJ55 cv.), USPP #8,648
Parentage / Origin:
Harvest / Season: Harvest: One week after Golden Delicious
Description: Good looking yellow apple with a 0-40% orange-red blush. Flavor is sweet yet mildly subacid, said to be intense. Cream colored flesh, not prone to browning. Fruit can be stored up to 6 months in cold storage.
Tree Characteristics: Susceptible to mildew, blister spot, soft scald. Thinning is necessary to avoid biennial bearing.

Sundance

Parentage / Origin: Golden Delicious x PRI 1050-201 (or 1050NJ1); PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois Co Op), 1990
Harvest / Season: Harvest: Eight days after Red Delicious
Description: Medium to large. Pale green skin. Excellent sweet-tart flavor. Keeps four months.
Tree Characteristics: Medium vigor. Upright growth habit. Early bearer. Immune to scab, resistant to fireblight. Fruit hangs on tree until late November.

Sundown (Cripps II cv.), USPP #8,477
Parentage / Origin: Golden Delicious x Lady Williams; Western Australia Ag Dept Breeding Program
Harvest / Season: Harvest: November
Description: Distinctive attractive red with white lenticels. Color varies according to exposure. Flesh is white, crisp, juicy and very sweet. A very good keeper with a long shelf life.
Tree Characteristics: Vigorous standard type with the growth pattern being upright with numerous spurs. Precocious, sets well and will size a heavy crop. Possibly slightly biennial.

Sunny Brook
Parentage / Origin: Heyer 12 x Morden 359; Canada
Harvest / Season:
Description: Medium size. Bright red over yellow. Fair dessert quality. Good cooking apple.
Tree Characteristics: Very hardy, precocious bearer.

Harvest / Season:
Description: Yellow-red fruit. Unique pear-grape flavor. Good eating apple, ripens early.
Tree Characteristics: Hardy to -40 degrees.

Sunset
Parentage / Origin: Cox's Orange x ??
Harvest / Season: Harvest: Mid season.
Description: Flavor excellent, much like Cox's, but slightly smaller in size.

Suntan
Parentage / Origin: Cox's Orange Pippin x Court Pendu Plat; England, 1955.
Harvest / Season: Harvest: October, Season: November - February
Description: Medium-large fruit, gold-yellow flushed and striped orange-red. Flesh yellowish-cream. Firm and fairly juicy. Flesh rather coarsely textured, crisp.
Tree Characteristics: Tree vigorous, spreading, good cropper.

Superchief Spur Red Delicious
Parentage / Origin: Sport of Red Delicious
Harvest / Season: Harvest: early September.
Description: One of the best red sports of Red Delicious. Starts out as a stripe and fills in to a solid red a full ten days ahead of its parent.
Tree Characteristics: Heavy producing tree provides large, typey white fleshed fruit. Triploid

Description: Small, green winter apple with creamy white, red stained flesh.

Sutton Beauty
(Also known as: Sutton, Steele's Red Winter)
Parentage / Origin: May be a seedling of Hubbardston
Harvest / Season:
Description: Uniform and symmetrical shape, beautiful color and pleasant quality makes it an excellent eating apple. Too mild for culinary use. Flesh slightly tinged with yellow, rather firm, moderately fine-grained, crisp, tender, juicy, mild subacid, good to very good.
